"So I can be myself again..."

I found out this past weekend that my Grandfather passed away. This week I am sad. I will miss my grandpa. With his passing, so also passes my last grandparent, the first John Walter Meyer (Sr.), and the one with whom inspired me to learn Malaguena on piano. My memories with him include shooting 22LR rifles on the ranch, visiting thrift shops for bargain finds, and swinging by the diet store to pick up a giant bag of food for his diet. In the mornings, at breakfast I recall he would often have toast, eggs he brought in, and a bowl to eat a grapefruit with each morning, some times a pomegranate. I usually had Cheerios or Raisin Bran. Sometimes I would hang out in his dental office and read the B.C. by Johnny Hart comic books in the lounge. In the afternoons I remember a few times that he would be so excited to share with me what he had been working...that is his garden, grape vines, and orchard. Walking through the back orchard one time, it was so full of everything growing and green, that I felt like I was in the Garden of Eden, and he was going to show me the tree with the forbidden fruit. I think it ended up being some squash or Asian pear/apple tree that he was excited to show me.

I am sad that I didn't get to visit one last time. I am happy that he got to see Johnny IV. I am sad that he never heard me play Malaguena. I am happy that he can now hear me play Malaguena. I am also happy that he can be with Jesus and June, two individuals that meant the world to him.

The funeral service on Monday will be difficult. Thank you Grandpa for everything you've done, and everyone you've touched.

Weekend thoughts

Jasmine turned 7 yesterday. She is getting so big now. Her gift from us was a lego set oriented toward a feminine audience. Jasmine loves it, and was so exited to start building it this morning. It is a lego house with 5 areas, two of which she was able to assemble before her birthday "Tea Party" started today. I finally got Johnny down for a nap right before the party so that should help. I also got the family guest/kids computer setup running Linux Mint. It's the "cooler than ubuntu" linux. Where Ubuntu has strayed down a path of bleeding edge, Linux Mint is more along the lines of keep it simple like a Mac, but as familiar as Windows...

I've got a lot of school work to finish this weekend. A 300 word forum post on some readings and a 250 word response to another reading. I have yet to <del>start</del> finish the readings. My school reading load is going to rip me a new one this semester, but all should be good if I can even retain 10% of what I am reading, I will have a new encyclopedia of knowledge at my disposal.

I need to finish organizing and cleaning the bonus room tonight. My hope is to have a clean room to think and write my stuff tonight...or play Mortal Kombat.

Side note, Hyun called me this week, and that is STILL the highlight of my week. It's been difficult without him around, but the there have also been a lot of positive adjustments from his departure. I am choosing to dwell on the positives to keep my spirits up. That being said, I can't help but think of Catan and Risk when I think of Hyun, and I need to host another game night. Perhaps in February.

Anyone interested in some Catan soon?

What's New

There is so much to talk about, and rarely anyone free to listen. But fortunately one advantage of not having any readership, I can post something without any fear of lashback ;p

I will probably be updating sooner that later, and need to figure out a way to get g+ syncing with this, or vice-versa.

Wildfire Gallery...now live!

Decided to see if I could be of some use to the Wildfire folks, so I put up a gallery for people to upload photo's and whatnot. I have it setup so that any Registered Users can add new ablums or items to existing albums under the Wildfire Main Album. I already created a 2008 and 2009 album, as well as a Summer Camp album under 2009... I don't know if anyone will have any 2008 images to upload, or even if anyone will use this gallery. hahaha!

Instructions below.

Woohoo, Twikini for Windows Mobile!

As I am not drinking the Apple cool-ade, and I have not been woo'd by the mystic nature of Androd or the Palm Pre, I am still gung-ho that my little Tilt is still the only phone for me. Atleast until the HTC Touch Pro 2 comes out. The competition all have their "app stores", for me it's always a crap shoot what app will perform best and present a clean UI for my touch screen phone. I recently found an awesome facebook app but have yet to find a comparable Twitter app to that of the iphone.

In my quest to find a solid twitter app for my TYTNII, I stumbled across Twikini, a Windows Mobile Twitter App. Trinket Software had a trial offering so I gave it a shot. Before this, I had tried ceTwit, Twobile, and a few others that were ok, but lacking in in some areas. Twikini impressed me with it's UI and integration with twitPic as well as its clean interface and quick response times. It wasn't long before my trial period ended and I was left not wanting to search for a substitute and too cheap to pay for an app. While heading back to the site to find out how much they wanted for their little app, I stumbled upon an offer to give it away for free. Fortunately for me, Trinket Software is offering the software for free just for blogging about it. So here's to getting a twitter app back on my phone.

Go here and try it out:http://www.trinketsoftware.com/Twikini

Here's a screenshot:

Sad and Happy Memorial Day weekend.

I am in day 4 of my Memorial Day weekend. It has been an exciting one. It started off on Friday with a Half Day at work, and a motorcycle ride with Austin. The last time I rode, there was still snow on the ground heading out too the coast. This ride was more of a random exploratory ride, and we hit two dead end roads, that were very enjoyable. We managed to avoid all of the Memorial weekend traffic, so I was pleased with that outcome.

Continue reading "Sad and Happy Memorial Day weekend."
